Welcome to the city of Centennial, CO, located in Arapahoe County near Denver and Littleton. Centennial is one of Colorado's newest cities, incorporated as a statutory city in 2001 and governed by an elected Mayor and an eight-member City Council. Despite its short history, Centennial today is the tenth most populous city in Colorado, with a residency of about 103,000. Prior to its incorporation, Centennial's neighborhoods were considered unincorporated parts of Arapahoe County: Castlewood and Southglen were noted as "Census Designated Places"
or CDPs, and generally (if not legally) considered to be sections of either Littleton or Aurora. The 12th annual Safest Cities Awards ranked Centennial 25th out of 369 American cities, and Centennial is considered to the lowest crime rate by far of any city in the Denver Metro Area. Centennial is considered part of the Denver metropolitan area, just a short commute to the southeast of the city. Littleton lies to the immediate west, and Aurora is just to the east. The city lacks its own school system, but owners of Centennial real estate have access to Littleton and Cherry Creek public schools (both of which are highly ranked, nationally and within the state of Colorado), as well as several private schools.
Despite its convenient proximity to the Denver metro area, Centennial real estate retains a somewhat rural feel. Denver is known as the Mile-High City, and all 27.9 square miles of Centennial are on a level par with it: the city sits on the same plateau at the foot of the Front Range of the Rockies, at an altitude of around 5,400 feet.
